Rules of the “Give voice to Football” Hackathon (the “Contest”)

1. Eligibility

The Contest is only open to private participants who are at least eighteen (18) years of age and of legal age in their country of residence as at the date of their entry into the Contest. For the avoidance of doubt, Participants may only enter into the Contest in their capacity as private persons and not as representatives of a legal entity (e.g. organisation/company). Directors, officers, employees, contractors and agents of FIFA, including its subsidiaries, and members of any of their immediate families (i.e. spouses/partners, parents, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren or children) are not eligible to enter the Contest. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein. Participation in the Contest does not create a contractual relationship with FIFA.

2. Enrollment and Submission

In order to enroll you need to:

Your submission should be made through one GitHub account. The contribution of other people to your submission can be referenced in the README.md of the forked repository. Regardless of the number of contributors the winning submission (of each track) will be awarded with two (2) prize tickets. The use of any automated software (e.g. bots) is prohibited.

In order to be eligible for the Contest, you will have to create a release in your forked repository by Monday June 10th at 23:59 CET. The release should be tagged with version “v1.0” and have the title “FIFA Hackathon Submission”.

Please make sure to have just one release on your forked repository. In case of multiple releases, the last one prior to the deadline will be considered.

Your submission must be your own original work.

3. Jury and communication of the winners

The winners of the Contest will be selected by a panel of judges acting in their sole discretion (the “Jury”). There will be a total of two winners selected (one for each track i.e. one winner for the product idea track and one winner for the prototype/demo track.) The Jury for the Contest will be comprised of four judges from FIFA. The members of the Jury shall be chosen at FIFA’s sole discretion. Participants will be judged based on various criteria including the following:

  • Fit to the topic of the Contest (i.e. the usage of voice assistants in football)
  • Quality and innovative nature of the product idea or prototype/demo
  • Utility of the product idea or prototype/demo
  • Compelling use of FIFA data / APIs (see details here)
  • A particular focus on Women’s Football given the proximity of the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™

FIFA’s and the Jury’s decision in connection with any aspect of the Contest shall be final, binding and not capable of appeal, including the discretion not to accept entries in cases involving, but not limited to, user behaviour which encourages activity or conduct that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, and/or content for which participants were compensated for or granted any consideration by any third party, and/or content which infringes any intellectual property rights including patent, trade mark, copyright or other proprietary rights of any third party.

By making a submission to the Contest participants release FIFA, its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, representatives, agents, and advisors from any and all liability for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the decisions of the Jury. The winners will be contacted by FIFA through opening a pull request on their forked repository. If the winner(s) fail to respond to FIFA’s pull request within two (2) days of being notified that they are the winner(s), the winner(s) shall be disqualified and shall forfeit the opportunity to claim the prize hereunder. Thereafter, the Jury shall, in accordance with the criteria set out above select another winner and FIFA shall contact the new winner via the opening of a pull request on their forked repository. Following receipt of a timely confirmation of acceptance of the prize tickets (in accordance with the provisions herein), FIFA will ship the prize tickets via courier service, at FIFA’s expense, to the address specified to FIFA by the winner(s).
The winners will also be announced on the official FIFA page of the Contest.

4. Intellectual Property Rights

All intellectual property rights contained in submissions shall remain the property of the individuals that developed them. The participant acknowledges and agrees that through participation in the Contest, there shall be no transfer of ownership or licence to use any intellectual property rights of any kind belonging to FIFA.

5. Protection of Intellectual Property

By submitting an entry or accepting any prize, you represent and warrant the following: you will not submit content that is copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise subject to third party intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights, unless you are the owner of such rights or have permission from their rightful owner to post the content; and the content submitted by you does not contain any viruses, Trojan horses, worms or other disabling devices or harmful code.

Participant further represents and warrants that he or she is the sole author and copyright owner of the submission, and that the submission is an original work of the participant, or if the submission is a work based on an existing application, that the participant has acquired sufficient rights to use and to authorize others; and that the submission does not infringe upon any copyright or upon any other third party rights of which the participant is aware, and that the submission is free of malware.

6. Timing

The Contest will commence at 09:00 CET on Tuesday May 28th 2019 when the Hackathon space on GitHub will be open for submission. The Contest will close at 23:59 CET on Monday June 10th 2019 (the “Closing Date”)

7. Limitation

All users may only participate in the Contest with one submission per track (i.e. you may make a maximum of two submissions in connection with the Contest with a maximum of one submission per track i.e. one submission for a product idea and one submission for a prototype/demo).

8.Prize and conditions to claim the prize

The winner of each of the two tracks of the Contest will each receive 2 (two) tickets for FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019TM Final game held in Lyon on 7 July 2019 (i.e. the winner of the product idea track will win 2 (two) tickets and the winner of the prototype/demo track will receive 2 (two) tickets. If you accept a prize, you will be solely responsible for all applicable taxes related to accepting such prize and all the travel and accommodation expenses for attending the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™. The winners also acknowledge and agree that they shall not sell the prize tickets, and that they shall be required to comply with all applicable ticketing terms and conditions attached to such prize tickets.

For the avoidance of doubt, all aspects of the prize are stated above. To the extent that FIFA ensures that the above prize items are made available to you, FIFA will be deemed to have fulfilled its prize obligations. All costs and expenses not explicitly stated above as comprising part of the prize shall be the sole responsibility of the winner. Such costs and expenses, which will not be covered by FIFA, shall include (as applicable and without limitation): accommodation, insurance, visa charges and taxes, travel, spending money, and meals. The winners waive any and all claims (if any) for relief (including restitution) against FIFA and their respective bodies, officers, agents, employees, volunteers, sponsors and any other entity or person acting on their behalf should the purpose of such ancillary expenses be or become in whole or in part frustrated for any reason whatsoever. All relevant insurance are the winners’ own responsibility, including such insurance as applicable for any guest (if applicable).

Each winner cannot request a cash alternative or substitution of the prize. FIFA, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to substitute a prize of greater or equal value in particular if any element of the prize cannot be awarded as described due to unavailability. Notwithstanding the foregoing, FIFA reserves the right to make, at its sole discretion, changes to the prize. It is understood and agreed that although the winners of the Contest must satisfy the age criteria set out in in the section entitled “Eligibility” above, their guest (if applicable) may be of any age, it being understood and agreed that such guest (if applicable) shall, at all times, remain the sole and exclusive responsibility of the winner.

9. Cancellation

FIFA reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Contest, in particular if any fraud, technical failures or any other factor beyond FIFA’s reasonable control impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the Contest. FIFA reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any participant it finds to be tampering with the FIFA Contest page, the participation process or the operation of the Contest.

10. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

FIFA is not responsible for: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information; (2) technical failures of any kind; (3) unauthorised human intervention in any part of the Contest; (4) any damage, loss, injury, disappointment or psychological stress/trauma suffered by any participant entering the Contest or as a result of acceptance of any prize; (5) participants ensuring that they are legally allowed to participate in the Contest; or (6) the prejudice resulting from any of the events listed under (1) to (5).

11. Data Protection

No personal data other than the participants’ GitHub username will be collected or processed.

12. Prevailing language

The Contest rules have been drafted in English. Each participant acknowledges and agrees that he/she has read and understood these Contest rules and that he/she is fully aware of the rights and obligations arising therefrom. In the event of any discrepancy between the English and translated texts, the English text shall be used to resolve any doubts arising in respect of interpretation and/or application.

13. Governing Law

The rules of the Contest and one’s participation in the Contest shall be governed by the laws of Switzerland, to the exclusion of its rules on conflict of laws. Any claim arising out of or related to the participation in the Contest shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the ordinary Court of the Canton of Zürich.

14. The Contest is not, in any way, sponsored, supported, endorsed or organised by GitHub.
